Protecting Your Central Florida Car This Storm Season

In Central Florida, when it’s summer it’s also storm season. It doesn’t matter what kind of vehicle you have, it’s always worth protecting.

The same precautions apply to boats, two wheeled vehicles, four, or even six! So how do you go about protecting your vehicle this storm season? Keep reading to find out.

Whenever possible, use storage

This should be your first option. If you have a garage, make sure your vehicle is in it at all times during a storm. It doesn’t matter if it’s an afternoon thunderstorm or hurricane, damage can still happen.

If you don’t have much room in your garage, or it can only fit one car then keep the remaining vehicles near your house- rather than in the road. If you have a carport or awning pull it in there, wherever you find protection use them to serve as a windbreak.

Use vehicle covers

This mostly applies to the vehicles who don’t make it in an enclosed building. Vehicle covers are an effective way to prevent scratches and debris from ruining your car. You can find them at any hardware or auto store and they are moderately priced. The best part is- they are extremely durable and last a long time.

Keep doors locked

It would have to be a terribly gusty storm for wind to blow a door off, or open, but keeping doors locked do more than just prevent that. It’s always a good idea to keep doors locked even when the vehicle is in your own driveway, you just want to keep your vehicle protected at all times.

Take note of your car

A smart idea to do before a storm hits is take inventory of your car. By that we mean, look at it intensely to know the exact condition it’s in. Take pictures to help compare the vehicle before and after the storm. If anything bad were to happen to the vehicle you now have proof for insurance companies. This is just an extra safety precaution you can take to give you peace of mind.

Don’t drive

When the storm is strong, don’t drive. Anywhere you must go can wait, and if it’s an appointment or class, the individual you are meeting will most likely understand. Remember, it’s all about keeping you and others safe.
